Dual success for SONNTAG Bau
December 2011
The trenchless construction of an aircushion culvert under the rivers Enz and Nagold commissioned by the municipal sewage Pforzheim (ESP) was awarded two prestigious national and international prizes. Executing building contractor of this 16 million euro project was the company SONNTAG Baugesellschaft. The branch office in Bingen was responsible for pipe jacking of 1400, 1600 and 2200 diameter tunneling pipes and provided the engineering work, as well, all from a single source.
First of all, the “Enz” culvert earned the "Big Project and BGreen Award" in the category "water conservation“. The prize is awarded in Dubai every year in honour of special construction projects in the areas of "engineering" and "sustainability".
The second prize was the GSTT Gold Award for outstanding trenchless construction projects. For SONNTAG Baugesellschaft it was already the third GSTT award as a project partner. “Remarkable achievements, with which we have made a beautiful Christmas present to ourselves”, as the SONNTAG corporate group responsives commented on the prize awarded in early December at the engineering conference "Dortmund Sanierungstagen".
The GSTT Award is presented by the "GERMAN SOCIETY FOR TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY e.V.” [Deutsche Gesellschaft für grabenloses Bauen und Instandhalten von Leitungen e. V.], in order to highlight innovative engineering and heighten awareness of the potential cost savings as compared with open-air construction. Not least of all, it’s about environmental issues, because underground pipe-jacking allows for greater conservation of natural resources.

Airport Frankfurt
November 2010
Pipe Jacking under "Runway West"
As part of the expansion of the airport “Frankfurt /Main”, new drainage systems are necessary or need to be extended.
SONNTAG is involved in 2 projects in the apron area of Frankfurt Airport:
Project 1: Consortium “Drainage collectors”
For the drainage of the rain water stored in different storage basins into the River Main, pressure pipes must be built. In areas with constant slopes, the supply pipes to these basins can be constructed as gravitation sewers. To cross “Runway 18 West” and taxiways, which are still in service, pipe jacking in the dimensions 1.40 m and 1.80 m are required.
Project 2: Main collector under the taxiways
A main collector is required for the drainage of the new shipyard apron and the runway extension. SONNTAG will implement this order and install 500 m of ND 1.30 m and ND 1.80 m as open constructions and 1.175 m ND 1.80 m by means of microtunnelling.
Altogether, approx. 6,000 m of pipe jacking with nominal diameters of 1.40 m and 1.80 m were constructed in a record time of 5.5 months.
Qualifikations “Deutsche Bundesbahn” (German Federal Railway)
July 2010
Besides our qualification in list “B” since 2005 for “Earth building construction - Special civil engineering” we have received the qualification for list “A” in "Constructive engineer construction" in the product categories "Railroad bridges in concrete construction" and "Massive supporting constructions"
Congratulations our employee Timo Veltens.

Timo Veltens has come out first in the winter final examination 2009/2010 in metal construction trade. He was also honored for this by the “Kreishandwerkerschaft Rhein-Nahe-Hunsrück”.
SONNTAG build the first fish pass at the Moselle barrage
April 2010
Minister of the environment Margit Conrad, Dagmar Barzen, president from the structure and approval management North, Felix Stenschke, director of the buereau shipping, Lord Mayor Dr. Eberhard Schulte-Wissermann and Professor Dr. Hofmann-Göttig take the first spade for the new fish pass.
The building costs for the complete project at the Moselle barrage in Coblenz amounts to about 5.5 mio euros. A visitor center and plants to the fish-monitoring which shall be completed by the National Garden Show in 2011 are also included.
In future the fish pass, built up from several concrete basins, at the Moselle weir in Coblenz shall connect the upstreamwater and underflow with each other so that fish and other water living creatures can pass the barrage weir safely again.
